Taco Tuesday!

In my household we have a huge love for anything Mexican or a version of it. Taco Tuesdays has been a ritual we’ve kept for many years. Beef tacos, chicken tacos, shrimp tacos and our personal favourite FISH TACOS.

Crispy Fish Tacos

This recipe is delicious and absolutely gorgeous. What do I mean by gorgeous? I mean the beauty of this dish is showcased in it’s colours and will have you hypnotized by all its beautiful colours. The red cabbage, cilantro and chipotle crema are truly a taco rainbow.

Fish Tacos Made Easy

This recipe may sound fancy and gourmet but trust me when I say it’s super easy. These Fish Tacos are made up of 3 parts – the batter, the slaw and chipotle crema. Now, I can’t imagine you will have everything on hand, (and if you do, yay!!! you’re half way there) a quick trip to the grocery store may be necessary but extremely worth it.

Fish Taco Tuesday

Any white fish works well for this recipe, I chose haddock for these fish tacos.

Fish

Season your fish! I used oregano, salt and lemon juice. You want flavour in every bite.

The Ultimate Fish Taco Batter

Beer – Yes that’s right, beer. I kept with the theme and used Mexican beer, any other beer will work just as well.

Flour – All purpose is my go-to because it is so versatile. Like I said before, I have always been loyal to all purpose flour and it has always been loyal to me.

The Ultimate Slaw

Red Cabbage – This vegetable is beyond beautiful and delicious; however, everything it touches turns bluish purple (trust me, I had to learn the hard way.) I strongly suggest wearing gloves and using a non-porous surface to cut your cabbage. For this salad we are looking for long ribbons of cabbage. Cut your cabbage in half and remove the triangular core. Place cabbage on its flat side, using a knife or mandolin cut thin slices.

Sliced Red Cabbage

I had a fight with a red cabbage, and the red cabbage won.

Flavourify

Onion – For this recipe I used a yellow onion. Just like the red cabbage you want thin slices. Peel your onion and cut the stem and root ends off. Cut your onion lengthwise, wipe your tears, and soak your onion in a bowl with water – it helps take the edge off.

Look at those colours!

Cabbage slaw for fish tacos

Cilantro – You either love it or hate it. It was a staple growing up and I personally cannot live without it. I.ABSOLUTELY.LOVE.IT! For this recipe you will need a hand full of chopped cilantro.

Slaw Dressing – Lemon, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. This dressing is beyond simple and easy, all you do is drizzle on the slaw and mix.

The Crema

Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce – Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce are dried and smoked jalapeño peppers in a tomato based sauce with spices. My local grocery store sells a little can, which is enough for this recipe, you only need a few peppers for the perfect kick.

Mayo and Sour Cream – These two are the perfect duo for a creamy dressing.

Lime and Garlic – Zest and juice of one whole lime, one clove of garlic.

  1. Second recipe I’ve tried on this site and they both have been a success. I used cod for my fish tacos and they turned out great!
